Awakening

by Nicole Christine

Through the mud,

and through the storm-

you knew what

Sunlight streams through tree branches, creating a warm glow and rainbow lens flare in a forest setting, evoking a serene mood.

you had to do.

You opened your eyes,

and saw the pain;

you decided-

to heal

You opened your eyes;

and saw

what others tossed aside

You opened your heart again

just to see what was inside

through the mud

and through the storm

You learned that

you weren’t alone

the stars above

and clouds that soar

Showed you how to look up,

you yelled, “Fix my life”

and you began

moment by moment

Piece by piece

you became whole again.
