Fading Scar

by Vishaal Pathak

Close-up of an elephant’s textured, wrinkled skin with a jagged tear revealing dark purple tones beneath, creating a rugged, natural feel.

Most days, this fading scar gets me

Like an old friend (foe?) would,

And we’ve learnt to get along.

 But some days,

It gets under the skin,

Rekindles a wound; perhaps like an injured bone

That broke and healed – fractures long gone,

Yet stings unannounced, each winter.
