Liberation?

by Deepa Rajan

It feels so so so good

to be liberated.

Who needs romance when

I can have a nice fuck

without the extra effort,

without the dinners and flowers,

without the weight of obligation.

It’s just a body:

skin and bones and genitals,

a hole or two or three.

In the midst of carnal rapture

it’s hard to remember the person,

but that’s alright, I like things casual.

I feel sorry for the shackled folks

who still think that the joining of bodies

is some Grand Event.

No. Practically speaking

it’s no more special than

fun yoga or a

sweaty tennis match or a

pleasurable Handshake.

At last, I feel so free -

Sex means nothing to me.
