Umberto’s Echoes

by Lynn White

I no longer think it sinful

Pink wildflowers scattered in a blurred brown field, creating a soft, dreamy atmosphere with muted earth tones.

to indulge passionately

in recollection.

I no longer find it foolish

to indulge in passion

long passed

even though I know,

just as he knew,

that remembering cannot elude

the long flow of time,

cannot elude the coming death,

death, the ultimate passion,

sometimes it’s said.

Such comforting indulgence.

But in such a world as this

comfort is always sinful

even in the echoing

of its memories.
