Who am I?
Not my name,
status,
public persona.
Who am I?
Not my attire,
assorted roles,
others’ projections.
Who am I?
I am courage.
I am determination.
A ripe chick embryo in a hatchery,
Peck, peck, pecking my way out.
Relentless pursuit of liberation
from a dwelling that served its purpose
and no longer fits.
Peck, peck, pecking my way out.
Resolved.
Persistent.
Driven.
Peck, peck, pecking my way out.
Finally, freedom.
Who am I?
A gooey, pulsating, exhausted mass of pure potential.
