Palm Reading

by Mary Janicke

my hands tell me I am getting old

my heart and mind beg to differ

my heart slightly skippy but basically steady

my mind strays a bit but mostly stays sound

others look at my hands

now spotted, now veiny

and see old

yet when I read my palm

I see a well-lived life

with a life line trending long

and a heart line beating true

a smile line curves near my thumb

as I smile back at it

I reflect what a gift this life

A woman with glasses smiles in a grayscale indoor setting. Her hair is short, and she's wearing a dark top. The mood is warm and friendly.
