Spec’s

by Sharon Scholl

I like your glasses, they whisper,

as though they know most people

would object to them.

They are on the gaudy side,

sunset pink with mottled blobs

that pass for a design.

Nothing demure about thick,

plastic frames that ride

my nose like a bucking bronco.

I chose them with deliberation,

thinking they might suggest

there’s still life in this old lady.
