Stillness Sits
by Duane Anderson

I say that I am ugly,
but I know that I am not.
I am beautiful,
yet I remain all alone
with no one to talk to,
no one to touch,
to love
and be happy.
I look at myself
in day darkness,
in night darkness,
and see only loneliness
sitting with a shy young man
wondering when the world will fall in place.
I sit in a dark chair and wait
in suicide.
