Black Butterflies
by Nicole Christine

Everything comes from a hidden place,
where secrets go to rest-
to be wild and free but also to be held
Her black wings opened,
she tried to fly but was still
attached to her cocoon
Softly, flapping, she sat up
trying again and again.
Until she broke free
Landing on stone,
near the lake just to hear the ripples-
She believed she could be set free
Imagine a black butterfly
Sitting on the pebbles, being tossed by the wind.
To be free is a gift,
even the weeds know this
