Prior to Midnight

by Christine Emmert

Raindrops on a window with blurry city lights in the background. Dark, moody atmosphere with reflections of colored lights.

The drip of darkness

against the windowpane

distracts me from slumber.

I would awake your memory further

with the magic of my pen,

but some sleeping is forever

which even the insistent hand of love

cannot shake into narrative to be related.

I found you dressed in words

that clothed the naked soul.

We stripped the words away

revealing naked thought

all too shocking.
