Vodka Soda

There is a body on the side of my bed,

Blurred beer bottles and wine glasses on a warmly lit table, with soft golden bokeh in the background

sick and numb,

foam & blood,

a concussion forms,

hands reaching out,

nails clawing,

eyes rolled to the back of her head,

every day i care for her,

feed it-Baby food,

IV drip vodka soda,

watch TV with her,

commercials put us to sleep,

shower the maggots out of her hair,

girls’ night at the bar

you bet she’ll be there,

sleep with her fingers tapping at my knees

matching the pace of my heart,

she inhales the smoke i let out

never exhaling

Smiling person with glasses in a leather jacket, seated in front of a wall with bird and flower illustrations. Neutral tones, casual setting.
